Demystifying Tipping in Loose Book Pages

The Grimm Book Bindery in Madison, Wisconsin demonstrates the technique with the use of Japanese rice paper

This second video presented by a library supply company uses rubber bands to keep the book tightly shut.

I recommend clamps or weighing the book down with something heavy.  Perhaps the rubber bands would not need to be in place long enough to do damage, but they do cut into the book.

Rubber bands are acidic; they are not good for books.  I prefer to stay away from rubber bands.
